Car crashes into lamppost on the N247, driver missing

During the dense fog last night, a car drove into a lamppost on the N247. This happened around 02:00 in Broek in Waterland. The driver was nowhere to be seen in any fields or roads.

Emergency services found the car in the direction of Monnickendam. According to witnesses, a lamppost had been driven out of the ground and a road sign was lying flat on the ground a little further on. The impact was hard, because the engine block of the car was about ten meters away from the vehicle.

Fire and police searched the neighborhood and ditches for people, but could not find anyone. The road was closed until about 4 a.m. for investigations.

Update

The police informed NH Nieuws this morning that the driver was treated in hospital for his or her injuries. It is unclear where the driver was found. “The person was not found with the vehicle,” says the police spokesperson. Police have not yet said whether alcohol was involved.
