A truck and at least one car collided with each other on the N36 near Westerhaar on Friday evening. As far as is known, three people were injured. One of them suffered serious injuries, the other two suffered minor injuries.
The seriously injured person was one of the occupants of the car. Initially, two air ambulances were called in. One of them was cancelled. The doctor from the other trauma helicopter accompanied one of the injured to a hospital in an ambulance.
The N36 was closed to traffic in both directions fairly soon after the accident. At around 11:30 p.m., that was still the case. It was then expected that it could take a while before the N36 was released again. This is due to the fact that the police are still investigating the exact circumstances. The truck had not yet been recovered by 11:30 p.m.
The accident happened at the Westerhaar exit, viewed from the direction of Mariënberg.
Call for a safer way
For years there have been calls that something must be done to make the N36 safer. Fatal accidents are common on the road between the A35 at Wierden and the N48 at Ommen.
That wish was even heard on Friday, when it became known that the pressure on Minister Harbers to quickly do something about the insecurity on the N36 is increasing. On Tuesday he received a petition from a delegation of politicians and entrepreneurs from this region in The Hague with that request.
