FC Volendam failed to do well against relegation competitor Almere City today. They lost 0-1 and afterwards the players and captain Xavier Mbuyamba were disappointed. “It didn’t work at all today. A bad feeling.”
“When we want to do things with the ball, there is no movement. And no people go deep. Then you can hold the ball at the back, but something will have to be done,” Mbuyamba analyzes afterwards.
“I know my team. I know what they can do. I expected this match.”
“We tried to take risks, but if things keep going wrong, you will soon stop doing it, of course,” the 22-year-old captain continues. “Me too. I want to play those balls, but if the risk is too great then I won’t.”
Text continues below the response from FC Volendam coach Regillio Simons
FC Volendam coach Regillio Simons had an extremely disappointing debut as head coach against Almere City. Simons noticed a lot of tension within his team prior to the game. Simons: “That tension even resulted in people dropping out in the warm-up. That and the change in the system did not improve the boys’ confidence.”
Due to the defeat, FC Volendam drops to last place in the Premier League. Vitesse, which will play later today, has a better goal difference than FC Volendam. The next game for Simons’ team is Saturday, January 20. Then the away match against Heracles Almelo (6.45 pm) is on the program.
