The German volleyball champions BR Volleys will have to do without their star and captain Sergej Grankin in the future.
The 37-year-old Olympic champion will not return to the Berliners for the new season and will continue his career in his native Russia.
“The decision was really very difficult for him, but the political and family circumstances make it difficult to continue working abroad,” said Managing Director Kaweh Niroomand.
Grankin had played for Berlin since 2019 and won the league title three times in four seasons.
