Capitol Storming Commission of Inquiry votes to subpoena Trump

The U.S. House of Representatives Committee of Inquiry investigating the January 6, 2021 storming of the Capitol has unanimously approved the proposal to subpoena former President Donald Trump on Thursday. This is reported by international news agencies. The commission wants to question him about his role in the violent attack on the Capitol.

According to Bennie Thompson, a member of the United States House of Representatives, Trump must be held accountable for his actions, especially to “the police officers who risk their lives and bodies to defend our democracy.”

According to CNN Trump is not expected to comply with the subpoena. The decision could lead to a lengthy legal process over Trump’s compliance with the subpoena, which could potentially last longer than the investigation into the attack on the Capitol itself. Republicans recently pledged to close the Democrat-led panel if Republicans regain a majority in the House of Representatives in the midterm elections next month.
