The German canoe slalom team canceled the World Cup in Kraków, Poland, after Olympic champion Ricarda Funk also tested positive for the corona virus.
At the start on Friday, Hannes Aigner, who came third in the Olympics, had to be withdrawn from the competition. Like kayak world champion Funk from KSV Bad Kreuznach, he feels comfortable, the German Canoe Association said.
Nevertheless, the decision was made with team doctor Roland Eisele and sports director Jens Kahl to cancel the World Cup to protect other participants. “We have a responsibility for everyone,” explained head coach Klaus Pohlen.
