Cannes 2023: the Italian films in competition at the Festival, the predictions

The chimera by Alice Rohrwacher

Another film that we will probably see at Cannes 2023 is The chimera Of Alice Rohrwacherinterpreted by Josh O’Connor – Prince Charles in The Crown 4 who posted a few photos from the film on his Instagram – e Isabella Rossellini. Shot between Lazio and Tuscany, it is the story of an archaeologist involved in an international network of stolen Etruscan artefacts in the 1980s. The film (Rai Cinema and Archimede production, Garrone company founded in 1997) tells the story of the journey of two young people, Seydou and Moussa, who leave Dakar to reach Europe. The conversion by Marco Bellocchio

The screenplay is multi-handed: Bellocchio, Stefano Massini e Susanna Nicchiarelli, with the collaboration of Edoardo Albinati, Daniela Ceselli and the historical consultancy of Pina Totaro. They are also in the cast Paolo Pierobon, Barbara Ronchi, Fausto Russo Alesi, Filippo Timi and Fabrizio Gifuni. The filming involved Emilia Romagna, with incursions to Sabbioneta, Mantua and San Benedetto Pothen Rome and Paris.

Saverio Costanzo with Finally dawn

Finally, with Finally dawn, in Cannes 2023 there could also be Xavier Costanzo. Which summarizes the film as a “fairy tale with yellow elements and a Hitchcockian atmosphere, set in the Cinecittà of the 1950s”.
