The liberation of the region claimed the lives of a thousand Canadian and Allied soldiers, mostly of a very young age, who now find their resting place at the Canadian War Cemetery Adegem. Canadian flags will also be displayed there in memory. Residents of Knokke-Heist also purchased more than 1,200 Canadian Flags to decorate their facades, balconies and gardens. These will be on display until Armistice Day.
The campaign, which is already in its sixteenth year, is part of the WWII commemoration ceremonies in Knokke-Heist. About 100 Canadian soldiers, teachers and students are also welcomed.
