The Canadian ski racer Roni Remme will start for the German Ski Association (DSV) in the upcoming World Cup season. The 26-year-old, whose grandmother is from Germany, announced this on social media on Wednesday (October 12, 2022).
The DSV confirmed the change on request. “I’m honored and very excited to get this opportunity,” Remme wrote in a short video on Instagram, in which she can be seen first in the Canadian racing suit and then in the light blue German team clothing. She was well received by her new colleagues, said the two-time Olympic participant, and “made this big step less scary” for her.
Only podium finish in alpine combined
Remme had her international breakthrough in winter 2018/19. At that time she got her only podium finish in the World Cup when she finished second in the alpine combination of Crans Montana. At the World Championships in Are, she finished fifth in the same discipline and was close to a medal. In the past two winters, Remme has not made it into the top 15 in the World Cup. Her best discipline is the slalom.
Romed Baumann was the last “import”
Changes of nations are possible in skiing provided that both national associations and the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) agree. Austrian-born Romed Baumann is already successfully active for German ski racers. He won silver in the Super-G for the DSV at the 2021 World Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo.
