Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau lashes out at protesters corona policy
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has lashed out at the truckers who have been demonstrating in Ottawa for days. The protesters are trying to “block our economy, our democracy and the daily lives of our fellow citizens,” he said in the Canadian parliament.
Trudeau was also critical of conservative opposition members who support the protesters. It was the first time in a week that the prime minister has spoken publicly, as he tested positive for Covid-19 last week.
Yesterday, Mayor Jim Watson of Ottawa declared a state of emergency. Police took thousands of liters of fuel to force an end to the demonstrations. A judge banned truck drivers from honking their horns to calm residents in the area.
The demonstrations in recent weeks in several Canadian cities are the result of the ‘freedom convoy’ of Canadian truck drivers angry about the vaccination requirement for international truck drivers.
