Canadian artist The Weeknd has recently said that he wants to change his stage name to his real name Abel Tesfaye.

According to the AFP news agency, the 33-year-old R&B musician had already changed his username on Monday to Twitter and to Instagram.

Tesfaye recently told the American W Magazine -in an interview with a fashion magazine that he wants to “kill The Weeknd”.

– I’m going through a cathartic path right now. The moment is coming when I’m ready to close The Weeknd’s chapter, he said.

Tesfaye, who is one of the most popular artists in the world, said that he is still making music, but in the future his artist name will perhaps be the star’s first name, Abel.

– I definitely try to recreate my skin and be born again. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say, he explained.

According to the artist, the next album will most likely be the last one he releases under the name The Weeknd.

The Canadian artist rose to fame more than ten years ago after gathering a strong following on the video service YouTube. Since then, The Weeknd has, among other things, become the first artist to exceed the 100 million monthly listeners mark on the music service Spotify.

Next, Tesfaye will be seen in June, set in the music world, to be released on HBO The Idol in the series, in which he stars together with the daughter of actor Johnny Depp Lily-Rose Depp with.
