The Ice Hockey World Championship 2023 ended prematurely for Canada’s Joe Veleno after a bad skate kick against the Swiss Nino Niederreiter.
The World Federation IIHF imposed a five-game ban on Detroit Red Wings NHL teammate Moritz Seider.
As a result, Veleno will no longer be able to play at this World Cup. The attacker kicked Niederreiter’s lower leg with his runner in the 2-3 win against Switzerland on Saturday.
The Swiss captain of the Winnipeg Jets survived the attack unharmed.
