Canada follows suit by blocking airspace for Russian planes

OTTAWA (dpa-AFX) – Canada is also blocking its airspace for Russian aircraft. “We will hold Russia accountable for its unprovoked attacks on Ukraine,” Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said on Twitter on Sunday. Canada’s airspace is considered significant because of its size and is often used for overflights from Europe to the United States.

Canada follows several EU countries, including Germany, with its announcement. For the Federal Republic, a corresponding ban initially applies for three months. Other countries such as Belgium, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria have already taken such a measure./scb/DP/he
