Response residents of Schoonebeek
There was no storm during the information evening. The reactions among those present varied widely.
Wim Maatje is confident that everything will be fine. But he himself has worked at NAM for over forty years. “The emphasis is always on what goes wrong. But also look at what NAM has meant for Schoonebeek. We grew up here with the oil. They have been here for seventy years and in the past it only went wrong once. with a sprayer. I’m quite comfortable with it.”
Henk Kloeze has not really formed an opinion yet. He does wonder why it is no longer possible in Twente and here it is. “How I feel about leaving here depends on all the answers I can expect tonight.”
A third resident, who prefers not to reveal his name, has little confidence in it. “Substances that do not belong there will soon end up in the soil. And you will never get that out again.” He therefore plans to ask a few ‘tricky questions’. “How reliable is NAM? Look at Groningen and Twente. I would rather the government and the State Supervision of Mines sit on top of it. But unfortunately everything revolves around the money.”
