Can this cuddly bear make up for the dull kicks of the DFB team?

It’s not even a year away from the opening game of the 2024 European Championship in the Allianz Arena in Munich. Germany is the host. And anyone who has seen the dismal performances of the national team in recent days (draws against Ukraine, goalless bankruptcies against Poland and Colombia) should have lost interest in the tournament.

But sometimes you just need a little consolation: UEFA unveiled the official mascot this week. This is a (virtually designed) teddy bear with a blue dress and black red gold soccer shoes.

The successor to Goleo

Pretty kitschy, the little bear – and that even in comparison to “Goleo VI”, which made children’s hearts beat faster in 2006 at the summer fairy tale, but at least visually supported the strong, informal performances of the DFB team around the youngsters Schweini and Poldi. But it could get even better, because the EM bear needs a name now.

In the coming weeks, children from the UEFA school football program and all fans will be able to vote online. You can choose from: Albärt, Bärnardo, Bärnheart and Herzi von Bär.

Even if the ideas of Hansi Flick’s team currently seem heartless and lacking in dynamism, a decision of real love can at least be made from the sofa at home so that it still works with success.
