Can the Catholic Church keep names of baptized persons in the baptismal register? Belgian data protection authority is conducting an investigation

The VRT documentary ‘Godforgotten’, about abuse within the Catholic Church, has prompted many people to be ‘debaptized’. However, the Catholic Church is of the opinion that baptism is not possible, and only makes a note in the baptismal register after the name of those who have “left the church community”. That practice is being investigated by the Data Protection Authority, after several complaints that keeping the data of so-called debaptized persons is not in accordance with the GDPR. This is reported by ‘VRT NWS’.
