At the end of September, Max Eberl was released as sports director at Bundesliga soccer team RB Leipzig. He had previously worked there with Rouven Schröder, whom Eberl installed as sports director in April 2023. He now commented on Eberl’s upcoming commitment to FC Bayern.
Next Monday, Max Eberl will be appointed as the Munich team’s new sports director. The FC Bayern supervisory board still has to give its approval for this.
“We are a football club, and sport is at the forefront, the first priority, and for that reason we should have someone on the board who is responsible for sport,” said FCB President and Supervisory Board Chairman Herbert Hainer.
His former confidant at RB Leipzig, Rouven Schröder, has no doubt that Max Eberl is a suitable choice for the vacant position of sports director at FC Bayern. “I’m not worried that he won’t make it,” Schröder said on “Sky” on Sunday.
The RB sports director outlined what qualified former Bundesliga professional and long-time Gladbach managing director Max Eberl for the German record champions: “Max has so much experience and empathy, he has so much power and can inspire people and take them along. I think “The word ‘take away’ will be a big topic for him too,” said Schröder on the TV show “Sky 90”.
Schröder: FC Bayern is another step different from RB Leipzig
The Leipzig manager added: “I think Max is the right person, who can also radiate something, a certain warmth. It is clear that it will be a different step for him than RB Leipzig. Bayern Munich is the one “The biggest club in Germany. The media will also come into it, the expectations will be high.”
There has been a lot of speculation around FC Bayern in the past few days and weeks about how the constellation with Max Eberl as the new sports director and Christoph Freund as the already installed sports director on Säbener Straße will work.
Schröder also has a clear opinion on this: “I don’t even think about the topic of Max Eberl and Christoph Freund. They both want success. The ranking is clear. Both will know that they need each other. It will be interesting to see how the team behaves then put together.”
Max Eberl worked as an official at Borussia Mönchengladbach for a total of almost 14 years before working for RB Leipzig until the end of September last year.
