“Can be traumatic for those who see something like this happen”

“Our students are quite impressed. We are talking about relatively young students here, students of the first and second grade. The youngest are twelve or thirteen. That has a major impact on them. The students are currently free quiet. They are looking for support from each other,” says the school group Catholic Education Bruges and Ommeland.

And it is no different in other West Flemish boarding schools. The students of Barnum in Roeselare and Hotelschool ter Duinen in Koksijde were nearby when the young man crashed.

“Such dramatic events naturally have a major impact on both the students and the staff. In the coming period, our boarding schools will create a warm environment in which the boarders can work with their emotions. This usually takes place in group discussions. everyone in their own way on this. There are also students who need individual conversations and our supervisors and educators are also accessible and available for that,” it sounds.

Educators, victim support and the centers for student guidance will keep their finger on the pulse in the coming days.
