Camp Westerbork memorial center reflects on eviction of Jewish labor camps

In 2019, the Remembrance Center was donated the entire collection of the Foundation for Jewish Work Camps Drenthe and Friesland. It concerns paintings, photographs and utensils, such as soap, and a clock. “I was once in Vledderveen with a man who could tell something about Jewish labor camps,” says Van der Oord. “His father had helped Jewish workers. At one point he walks to the mantelpiece and picks up an old-fashioned clock. He said: ‘My father got this clock just before the eviction of the labor camp in Vledder’. The Jewish man wanted the A man from Vledder kept the clock for him until after the war. He never returned.”
