Calzedonia acquires majority stake in fashion label Antonio Marras

Calzedonia takes over 80 percent of the shares in the Antonio Marras Srl label. The Italian fashion company also plans to invest in a brand relaunch.

The Calzedonia Group aims to develop the potential of Sardinian fashion designer Antonio Marras with its retail and production expertise. The designer will continue to be involved in the creation of clothing, accessories and home furnishings.

“Finally I can fully devote myself to the creative side of the business and rely on the amazing professionals who will assist me in this new adventure,” Antonio Marras said in a statement on Wednesday.

Calzedonia is expanding

In addition to the main brand that gives it its name, the Calzedonia Group has continuously expanded its brand portfolio in recent years. The group also includes the lingerie label Intimissimi, the bridal fashion brand Atelier Emé, the lingerie label Tezenis, the cashmere manufacturer Falconeri and the wine merchant Signorvino.

In total, the company operates more than 5,000 stores of its brands worldwide. In the past financial year, the Calzedonia Group generated sales of 2.5 billion euros, with growth of 30 percent compared to the previous year.

“This agreement represents our group’s entry into a highly exclusive creative world that is new to us and should therefore be approached with great caution and respect,” Calzedonia founder Sandro Veronesi said in the statement. “However, we firmly believe that the artistry and intuition of Antonio Marras, with the support of our organization, can lead to excellent results.”
