Did you know that the very first postage stamp was placed in England? That happened on May 6, 1840. The inventor of the stamp is also an Englishman: Rowland Hill. He invented the system in 1837. The self-adhesive postage stamp was invented by the Scotsman James Chalmers.
The first Dutch postage stamp appeared on January 1, 1852. The stamp features King Willem III and cost 5 cents. In Belgium they used stamps before, namely since 1849.
