Calculated in detail for the first time: 15-kilometer traffic jam costs more than 200,000 euros

Transport economists at the University of Antwerp have succeeded in calculating both the direct and social costs of a traffic jam. They applied their new instrument to a 15-kilometer traffic jam on the E19, resulting in a total cost of more than 200,000 euros. This tool can be useful not only for transport companies, but also for policy makers.
