Café Aan de Sluizen closed: tired of rowing against the current

They started with good courage in an extremely difficult time, the beginning of the corona crisis. They survived Ronald and Priscilla Lesage. But the energy crisis has become too much for them. They stop rowing against the current. Their eatery Aan de Sluizen in IJmuiden is closing.

Ronald says that continuing would not testify to a sense of reality. There is simply not enough money coming in.

“We have done everything we can. But a beer in the cafe has to cost so much money these days that I understand that people prefer to get a case in the supermarket and drink it at home.” But the decision is painful: “We are really going to miss the customers,” says Priscilla.
