Today, the cabinet announced that, just like in the Netherlands, the excise duty on petrol will also be temporarily reduced on Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba from 1 April until the end of the year. This measure is part of the package that has been made available to dampen the effect of rising energy prices in the Caribbean Netherlands.

This means that until the end of this year, the excise duty on petrol in the Caribbean Netherlands will be reduced by USD 16 cents per liter. No excise duty is levied on diesel in the Caribbean Netherlands. From 1 April, the excise duty on a liter of petrol (rounded up) on Bonaire is 16 USD cents and on St. Eustatius and Saba 8 USD cents.

The public entities on Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba will determine the petrol price again on the basis of the reduction in excise duties and communicate about this.

The cabinet is making a total of 5 million euros available for the Caribbean Netherlands. Of this, 1.7 million euros is intended for fiscal measures such as excise duties: this is used to temporarily lower the excise duty on petrol.

The excise duty reduction is regulated by a policy decision and will then be presented to the House of Representatives as soon as possible via emergency legislation, at the same time as the legislation for the excise duty reduction for petrol and diesel and the energy VAT reduction in the European Netherlands.
