In the coalition agreement, it was agreed that the social minimum would be reassessed every four years and that it would be sufficient to live on and participate in society. As a first step towards this, Minister Schouten for Poverty Policy, Participation and Pensions and Minister Van Gennip of Social Affairs and Employment are asking an independent committee for advice.

The committee, which was set up in response to a motion by member Omtzigt, will investigate what different household types need to make ends meet and participate in society. She will also look at the system of the social minimum. The committee will present its final report within a year.

The members of the social minimum committee bring together expertise from science, practice and knowledge of the regulations. They work for municipalities, universities, Nibud and SCP, among others, or bring experiences from practice. The members sit in a personal capacity.
