The cabinet announced today that it is possible to lower the gift tax exemption for owner-occupied home, also known as jubelton, as of 1 January 2023, but not to abolish it. The cabinet will look into this possibility and the House of Representatives will be informed about this after the crocus recess.

It is not possible to abolish the jubelton before 2024 due to the necessary adjustments.

It is therefore possible to lower the jubelton as of January 1, 2023. It makes sense to use €27,231 as the lower limit. This corresponds to the amount of the one-off increased exemption for gifts between parents and children. This is understandable for citizens and puts less pressure on implementation as a result of questions about the scheme.

This possibility is now being further examined and the House of Representatives will be informed about this after the crocus recess.
