Cabinet releases 1 million euros for Liberation Festivals

The cabinet is releasing one million euros for the fourteen Liberation Festivals. Many Liberation Festivals are in financial difficulties, but this does not apply to the Liberation Festival in Drenthe.

Last year, the Liberation Festivals drew attention to the finances from outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte in the hope of more help from the government. That help is now coming in the form of a one-off financial injection of one million.

“The cabinet believes it is important that – now and in the future – on May 5 we can reflect on the values of freedom and democracy and that we can celebrate in an accessible way that we live in freedom,” can be read in a letter to Parliament . In addition, discussions are being held with the National Committee 4 and 5 May for a long-term plan.

According to organizer Nathan van Gelder, Drenthe has a healthy Liberation Festival. “We can count on a lot of support within our province. We have no financial problems whatsoever,” says Van Gelder. “The board must decide on this government contribution. We have not yet worked on it.”

The Drenthe Liberation Festival takes place every year on May 5 on the site at Baggelhuizerplas in Assen. Yesterday the plans for the next edition were presented. Typhoon, Dotan, Jett Rebel, Mel & Vintage Future, MEROL and La Fuente are the artists on the RTV Drenthe mainstage.
