A delegation from the cabinet is participating in the UN Climate Conference COP28, which will take place this year from November 30 to December 12 in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.
Prime Minister Rutte will be present at the official opening of the climate summit on Friday, December 1. In addition, he will meet with government leaders that day and participate in various meetings and working sessions. The evening before, Thursday November 30, he speaks with youth representatives who are committed to the climate.
On behalf of the Netherlands, Minister Jetten for Climate and Energy, Minister Kaag of Finance, Minister Kuipers of Health, Welfare and Sport, Minister Van der Wal for Nature and Nitrogen, Minister Harbers of Infrastructure and Water Management and State Secretary Heijnen of Infrastructure and Water Management will also take part on various days. participate in COP28.
This time the 28th Climate Conference focuses on the Global Stocktake: the first assessment of global climate action since the 2015 agreements to limit global warming. Within the EU, the Netherlands is committed to keeping these goals in sight by taking concrete steps in mitigation, adaptation and financing. During this summit, the Netherlands will also build an international leading group for the phasing out of fossil subsidies and will focus on a Damage and Loss Fund with a broad financing base for the most vulnerable countries.
