Cabinet closes deal on housing construction: so many houses are being added in your province | living

The cabinet has made binding agreements with all provinces about the construction of 900,000 houses up to and including 2030. Almost half of these will be located in South and North Holland. Drenthe is closing in, with 13,631 homes added.

More than 100,000 homes will be built in four provinces over the next eight years: in addition to South and North Holland, it concerns North Brabant and Gelderland. In Drenthe, Friesland and Zeeland, the building task is below 20,000.

Specifically, this concerns the following numbers per province:

‘Huge task’

It is not yet known where exactly the houses will be built. From December, provinces and municipalities must conclude regional housing deals. This will contain agreements about concrete locations, for which target groups will be built (for example young people, families or the elderly) and what the division is between owner-occupied and rental properties.

Decisions will also have to be made about how much the homes may cost. There is a national assignment here: Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Housing) wants at least 600,000 of the 900,000 homes being built to fall into the ‘affordable’ category. This concerns 350,000 homes in the middle segment (rent and purchase) and 250,000 social rental homes.

The housing shortage is still great. According to De Jonge, more control is needed to ensure that more houses are built than has been the case in recent years. He speaks of a ‘huge task’, which requires ‘joint efforts – shoulder to shoulder – from governments, corporations and market parties’.

Money

A lot of money is also needed. For example, it has been agreed with housing associations that they will invest more than 60 billion euros in new construction in the coming years. The resources for this will be released, among other things, by the abolition of the landlord levy as of 1 January 2023. As a result, housing associations lose 1.7 billion euros less annually than is currently the case.

The government is also crossing the bridge. For example, 1.5 billion euros is available to accelerate projects. In addition, 6 billion euros is available to at 17 large-scale housing locations to ensure good infrastructure, so that these districts have good connections. In addition, there is EUR 1.25 billion to speed up projects via the so-called Housing Construction Impulse and EUR 380 million is available to realize more temporary homes more quickly.
