Companies and suppliers in the shipbuilding, marine, yacht and marine construction, offshore, water sports industry and shipping together form the maritime manufacturing industry. The Netherlands has traditionally been a strong international player in this sector. To keep it that way and to meet challenges in the areas of sustainability, digitization, security and earning capacity, the parties involved will jointly draw up a sector agenda this year. Minister Micky Adriaansens (Economic Affairs and Climate) has asked Marja van Bijsterveldt-Vliegenthart to supervise this extensive process as an envoy.

To capitalize on the opportunities for the maritime manufacturing industry and to deal with threats, it is important that the government and the sector join forces. For example, parties from the maritime sector have already jointly submitted a proposal for the National Growth Fund: the Maritime Master Plan. The aim of this plan is to develop, build and use climate-neutral and innovative ships in the Netherlands.

As the start of the process that should lead to the sector agenda, the cabinet is organizing a round table meeting on Tuesday 14 March 2023. Ministers Adriaansens (Economic Affairs and Climate), Harbers (Infrastructure and Water Management) and State Secretary Van der Maat of Defense speak with SMEs and larger companies, knowledge institutes and sector representatives. The envoy for the maritime manufacturing industry has an important role in the development of the sector agenda. Van Bijsterveldt-Vliegenthart will fulfill this role until September 15, 2023, in addition to her regular work as mayor of the municipality of Delft.
