Newcomer and standard specialist Tobias Mohr has denied rumors that the atmosphere in the dressing room of Bundesliga promoted FC Schalke 04 is no longer as good as it was at the beginning of the season.
“We are still close together and have a lot of fun in the dressing room,” said Mohr of “WAZ”.
Schalke’s full-back made it clear that even if players drop out of the starting line-up at times, this doesn’t cause any unpleasant background noise in the Royal Blues’ dressing room: “We as a group are handling it really well. Nobody takes it personally. We push and motivate each other.”
This summer, 27-year-old Mohr switched from second division club 1. FC Heidenheim to Schalke, who, after being relegated in 2021, managed to return directly to the top flight of German football.
After five league appearances, the native of Aachen already has three assists in his first Bundesliga season. Mohr prepared two goals in the 3-1 win in the small district derby against VfL Bochum. He contributed an assist to the 2-2 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
“Great” interim result at FC Schalke 04
“It’s just a pleasure to see when the cross you hit comes in and goes in. It’s a nice feeling,” he said.
Mohr described his personal interim balance of the season to the “WAZ” in one word: “Great.” Then he added: “If someone had told me beforehand that you would play five of the seven games, I would have signed it immediately.”
FC Schalke 04: “Equal game” against FC Augsburg
FC Schalke 04 lost the big district derby against BVB 0-1 before the international break. The game is over for Mohr, the focus is now on the home game against relegation competitor FC Augsburg on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.).
Mohr is preparing for “a game on an equal footing” and hopes that the Royal Blues can “take the fans with them” – as a team, of course.
“Of course Augsburg will be self-confident after the Bundesliga victory over FC Bayern, but we are just as self-confident,” Mohr emphasized to “WAZ”: “We want to show aggressiveness from the start, want to defend up front and in the best case the claim victory.”
