C&A is closing two stores in Paris

PARIS – The Social Security Plan (PSE), which follows the announcement of the closure of two Parisian stores of clothing company C&A, was signed by a majority of unions on Friday, union sources said.

The management of the German-Dutch fashion company had announced to workers on May 31 the planned closure of two Paris stores on Rue de Rivoli and Boulevard Haussmann, putting 143 jobs at risk.

C&A: A majority of unions sign the agreement

“We have managed to secure 26 jobs, which will be divided between the other two sites, Montparnasse and La Défense, with the same number of hours,” Gilles Gondouin of Force Ouvrière (FO), the second largest union, told AFP. He added that this progress prompted FO to sign it.

Two other unions have also signed, he said. However, the CGT (largest union) did not sign. “We are now very concerned about the future. These two stores are the historic stores and the fact that they are being closed in this way worries us about the future of the other stores,” Gilles Gondouin pointed out.

C&A management did not respond to inquiries from AFP.

C&A is one of the leading fashion and clothing companies in Europe with almost 1,400 stores in 18 European countries and around 23,000 employees. In November last year, the company Job cuts in Germany and in Europe announced. (AFP)
