The excellent results obtained on the electric front, a priority for the development of the brand in Europe, have overshadowed the fact that BYD is one of the largest producers in the world of electrified vehicles (or, as it likes to say, new energy vehicles), i.e. with thermal engines and electric. And here in Geneva, the Chinese brand BYD presents for the first time the Seal U DM-i, a D-segment plug-in hybrid SUV which is the company’s first model in Europe to use the brand’s advanced Super DM technology, which favors electric driving with very low consumption and energy efficiency. The solution includes a petrol engine 96 kW flanked by two more powerful electric engines (150 kW at the front e 120 kW at the rear), served by an 18.3 kWh Byd Blade battery with pulse heating technology as standard which increases heating efficiency by a further 10%. The declared electric range is around 70 km according to the WLTP cycle while an 18 kW direct current rapid on-board charger allows the battery to be recharged from 30 to 80% in 35 minutes.

The new Byd model measures 4,775 mm in length, 1,890 mm wide and 1,670 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,765 mm. It was designed according to the language Ocean Aesthetics of the brand that is inspired by the movement of the ocean, capturing the beauty of nature. It features a distinctive X-shaped front end, a contoured bonnet and a front bumper with integrated dual-lens LED headlights that give the vehicle a strong sense of power, safety and stability. The dynamic, sloping beltline and balanced body proportions project an elegant, sleek silhouette, further emphasized by the 19-inch two-tone sports alloy wheels. At the rear, the continuous dot matrix LED headlights inspired by the drop of water with full-width light bar accentuate the high-tech aura of the car.

The interiors have a premium feel and also in this case play on a design inspired by the ocean. High-quality vegan leather upholstery offers refinement and comfort, further enhanced by mood lighting. The central console is equipped with a rotatable 15″6 full LCD touchscreen, Ota updates, a premium Infinity audio system, voice controls and Bluetooth wireless charging. The rear seat backrests can be folded down in a 60:40 ratio, allowing you to increase the seating capacity. trunk from 552 to 1,440 litres when both seatbacks are folded. The price list has not yet been released while it is certain that the model will not arrive in Europe before the second quarter of 2024.
