by the end of January, the incidence of covid will decrease

The incidence of coronavirus in Russia may decline at the end of January. Such a forecast was given by the chief researcher of the Gamaleya Center Anatoly Altshtein.

“Most likely, by the end of January – beginning of February, the incidence of “omicron” in Russia will also go down. This strain cannot withstand such a huge rate of infections that it took,” the expert said at a press conference.

Altstein explained that when a large number of people are infected, the genetic instability of the virus occurs, and “its infectivity is likely to decrease.”

The specialist recalled: in early February, it will be about a month from the moment when an increase in the incidence of the Omicron strain was recorded.

“This is approximately the time at which the maximum is reached and the decline begins. Therefore, I think that we will have a decline in early February,” Altshtein is quoted as saying. TASS.

The scientist stressed that “this is not a reason to cool down” in terms of compliance with antiviral measures. It should be understood that the incidence should reach a maximum, and then decline. It is impossible to say for sure how long a sufficiently high level of morbidity will remain, he added.

At the same time, Altstein noted that vaccination “although weakly protects against infection, it prevents the death of people” and the severe course of the disease. Therefore, it is very important to get vaccinated against COVID-19, the expert pointed out.

On January 16, Viktor Zakharov, head of the Department of Mathematical Modeling of Energy Systems, Head of the Center for Intelligent Logistics at St Petersburg University, said that by the beginning of February, the number of cases of covid infection recorded per day in the Russian Federation had can grow up to 65 thousand. A group of scientists led by Zakharov built a mathematical model that made it possible to predict the situation with the spread of the virus and draw such a conclusion.

As for the strain “omicron”, the incidence of this particular variant of coronavirus in the world peaking soon. This was reported by experts from the Institute for Metrics and Health Evaluation of the University of Washington Medical School. Experts suggest that the maximum number of infections will occur on January 22.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova informed that 783 cases of omicron infection were detected in our country, 53 percent of them in Moscow.
