BVB youngsters miss a huge chance against Milan

BVB’s U19s missed the big opportunity in the Youth League on Wednesday to make a small preliminary decision in Group F on matchday 2. After the opening win against the youngsters of Paris Saint-Germain, the black and yellow had to admit defeat 1-2 in the home game against AC Milan.

With the optimal result of six points from two games, the Italians are now alone at the top of Group F. BVB is in second place with three points. The Parisians and Newcastle United, who have so far been pointless, will not play against each other until later on Wednesday.

Dortmund’s downfall in the first Youth League home game of the new season was a catastrophic initial phase in which the team couldn’t get into the game at all. At the back, the BVB youngsters wobbled worryingly, and there was virtually no relief in the other direction.

BVB allows themselves to be overrun by Milan

And so after just around 15 minutes the deserved 1-0 was given to Milan, who used a corner to take the lead. Just five minutes later, it was an unnecessary loss of the ball by Dortmund that initiated a dangerous counterattack by the guests, which in turn led to 0-2 from the black and yellow perspective.

Dortmund’s resistance was only noticeable in the minutes before half-time, but it wasn’t enough to score again. This also applied for a long time after the break. The Black and Yellows were significantly better here than in the first half of the game, but ultimately lacked the necessary move to score.

BVB only broke the spell with the final whistle, when Paris Brunner headed the score to 1:2. Shortly afterwards the game was over.

In the next game of the Youth League group stage, the Black and Yellows will face Newcastle United on October 25th. Only the group winner qualifies directly for the next round. The second place in the table has to buy their ticket through the playoffs.
