Champions League quarter-finalist and BVB winner FC Chelsea celebrated two wins in a row in the English Premier League for the first time since October last year – to the chagrin of former champions Leicester City, who were threatened with relegation.
Four days after the 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund, the team, which has been suffering from severe form fluctuations this season, won 3-1 (2-1) at Leicester. The German national soccer player Kai Havertz scored again.
Former Leicester professional Ben Chilwell had given the Londoners the lead in the eleventh minute. An alleged second goal from Atlético loan João Félix did not count according to video evidence because of an offside position.
After Patson Daka (39′) equalized in the meantime, Havertz (45′ + 6′), who had also scored a goal against Dortmund, scored shortly before the break. Mateo Kovacic (78th) made everything clear for Chelsea. Leicester also had to play the final minutes with a man down after Wout Faes (87th) saw the yellow-red card.
BVB-victors FC Chelsea are only tenth in the Premier League
However, the victory did not bring Chelsea any further in the table. Coach Graham Potter’s team stayed in tenth place despite the three points and has to worry about the renewed Champions League qualification.
The situation is more difficult for former champions Leicester, who slipped to 16th place and were only a point away from the relegation zone after the final whistle.
Ex-Leicester professional Gary Lineker watched from the stands, who after a controversial comparison of British refugee policy with Nazi Germany is temporarily retiring from his job as a BBC presenter.
Because several TV experts and presenters showed solidarity with Lineker, some BBC football programs had to do without staff at the weekend. Others were completely eliminated.
