BVB wants to extend the contract with Gregor Kobel – winner in the Bundesliga update

Rumors of interest from England

Borussia Dortmund is aiming for an extension with goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. This is reported by the Swiss daily newspaper “View” on Wednesday. Accordingly, BVB wants to extend the contract, which is valid until 2026, by one or two years. The goalkeeper would get a raise that would make him one of the top earners in the squad.

There is talk that the Swiss national player has so far received an annual fee of 4 million euros. In the event of an extension, the salary could be increased to between 12 million and 13 million euros, the newspaper speculates. That would put Kobel on a par with Marco Reus and Niklas Süle from the top tier.

BVB, however, would react with the project to recent rumors that Kobel had become the focus of English clubs. In mid-March, the TV station “Sport1” said that Chelsea and Manchester United had expressed serious interest. Kobel’s consulting agency “SBE Management” and Chelsea are said to have met on the sidelines of the direct clash in the second leg of the Champions League. It is said to have been more an exchange of interests than concrete negotiations about a change. Kobel is happy in Dortmund and is not aiming for a departure after this season, it said.

FC Bayern is also said to be interested in BVB keeper Gregor Kobel

In mid-January, the “Kicker” reported that FC Bayern is focusing on Kobel as a possible successor to Manuel Neuer in the long term. According to the magazine, there has already been initial contact from the Munich side to the Swiss. BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl responded to the rumor on “Bild TV” in February and answered the question of whether he could imagine Kobel moving to Säbener Straße in the next two years: “Stuss! Definitive!”

Kobel has been with BVB since 2021 after coming from VfB Stuttgart for a fee of 15 million euros. Since then he has played 65 games for the Black and Yellows, in which he has not conceded 23 times – he is also the most valuable keeper in the Bundesliga, in the market value update on Wednesday he even rose by 10 million to now 35 million euros, which makes him one of the ten most valuable in his position worldwide.
