BVB unlucky player shortly before extra time

Julien Duranville has been under contract with Borussia Dortmund for over a year and has only made one appearance in the Bundesliga. Nevertheless, the young Belgian is about to extend his contract with BVB.

According to “Bild”, Borussia Dortmund’s top talent Julien Duranville will soon be presented with a new contract. For his 18th birthday at the beginning of May, the winger will receive a professional contract with a term of three years. Duranville would therefore be tied to BVB until 2027.

When BVB signed the then 16-year-old in January 2023, the official announcement only spoke of a “long-term” contract. “Ruhr Nachrichten” had reported that Duranville had signed a three-year contract until 2026, i.e. with the maximum term for a player under 18 years of age. In addition, the option for a follow-up contract has been anchored.

Such a model is not uncommon at Borussia Dortmund; Jude Bellingham and Giovanni Reyna also switched to the black and yellow team before they turned 18. Both quickly matured into professional performers.

Duranville becomes BVB’s unlucky player

The fact that Julien Duranville hasn’t left any major marks since his move over a year ago is also due to the many injuries he has sustained since then. The young Belgian moved to BVB when he was recovering from a torn muscle. It was only on the last Bundesliga matchday of the 2022/23 season against Mainz 05, when Dortmund lost the championship, that he celebrated his debut for black and yellow.

But then further setbacks followed: During the summer preparation he tore a muscle fiber, and in the autumn he suffered another muscle injury.

Therefore, BVB head coach Edin Terzic now wants to “carefully burden” his top talent, as he recently explained at a press conference. Duranville therefore commutes between training the U19s and that of the professionals. It is clear that Borussia still thinks highly of the player: “Anyone who sees Julien’s talent knows that he can be an immediate help.”
