Rejection from McKenna

Oliver Glasner is once again linked with a move to the Premier League. After the 49-year-old former Eintracht Frankfurt coach was traded to Nottingham Forest alongside Union Berlin and Olympique Lyon last year, Crystal Palace has now emerged as an interested party. English media are unanimously reporting that the Eagles have considered Glasner as a potential successor to 76-year-old club icon Roy Hodgson.

In the event of Hodgson’s early dismissal, whose contract only runs until the end of the season, Crystal Palace would like to make a formal offer to Glasner. The first discussions to determine the Austrian’s fundamental willingness have already taken place.

Palace boss Steve Parish is said to have long resisted replacing Hodgson, who returned from retirement in March 2023. The coach, who once played there in his youth, had previously looked after the South Londoners in 162 games between 2017 and 2021. The Eagles have only won three times in the English upper house since the beginning of November, most recently losing against Brighton (1:4) and Chelsea (1:3). Positioned in the middle of the table at the start of the season, Crystal Palace has moved ever closer to relegation and in 15th place is only five points ahead of Everton FC (18th place).

Before Glasner, the capital club is said to have already inquired about coaching talent Kieran McKenna, who has been working successfully at Ipswich Town for a good two years. The 37-year-old, assistant coach at Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, José Mourinho, Ralf Rangnick and Michael Carrick before joining the 1981 UEFA Cup winners, does not want to move at the moment. In the second-tier Championship, Ipswich Town, as a newly promoted team in fourth place, is fighting for a direct entry into the Premier League.
