BVB: Transfer of Karim Adeyemi fixed – record fee for RB Salzburg

Third DFB player is coming

After months of negotiations, the move is perfect: Borussia Dortmund has officially confirmed the signing of Karim Adeyemi from Red Bull Salzburg. The 20-year-old has been given a contract until June 30, 2027, which does not include a release clause and should bring the attacker an annual salary of 6 million euros. After Niklas Süle (26; FC Bayern) and Nico Schlotterbeck (22; SC Freiburg), Adeyemi is the third German international to join BVB.

“As a little boy, I was fascinated by black and yellow fast-paced football. That’s why it quickly became clear to me that I would like to switch to BVB when I found out about Dortmund’s interest. I also deliberately signed for the long term because I am convinced that we will be an exciting team that, with the support of the fantastic Dortmund fans, will be able to play for and win titles in the medium term,” said Adeyemi.

According to consistent media reports from, among others, “Ruhr Nachrichten”, “WAZ” and “Sky”, the base fee for Adeyemi is around 30 million euros, which puts the DFB striker in the BVB ranking of the most expensive additions on a level with returnee Mats Hummels (33 ) as well as Donyell Malen (23) and André Schürrle (31). Adeyemi should be able to catch up with Ousmane Dembélé (24) through bonuses, for whom a total of 35 million euros flowed to Stade Rennes.

Previously, there was talk of higher sums of up to 38 million euros plus bonuses. With the rumored EUR 30 million, Adeyemi is one of the most expensive departures from Salzburg, alongside Patson Daka (23), who switched to Leicester City for the same sum last summer. Adeyemi is also the second most expensive German player in the age group up to 20 years.

Haching is happy about Salzburg’s record income for Adeyemi’s transfer to BVB

“Karim Adeyemi is a highly talented, young German international whose strength at the end of our offensive game will look just as good as his extreme pace,” said BVB sporting director Michael Zorc. Sebastian Kehl added: “After the transfers of Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck, we have another very exciting player in Karim Adeyemi for the coming season. By the way, one who has a high BVB affinity, whose heart has already beaten for black and yellow as a youngster and who has decided against many offers from the top European leagues in order to be able to play for Borussia Dortmund. His speed and goal scoring skills are impressive, and although Karim is already very far in terms of football and athletics at just 20 years old, we see enormous potential for development in him.”

SpVgg Unterhaching, who left Adeyemi for Salzburg in 2018, will also be happy about the transfer. According to information from “Bild” and “Sport Bild”, the regional league receives 22.5 percent of the transfer fee. At €30m, that brings in €6.75m for the Munich suburban club, plus a further €450,000 through FIFA’s solidarity mechanism.

With the signing of Adeyemi, BVB’s transfer expenses increase to 50 million euros, so most of the income from the sale of Erling Haaland (21), who is moving to Manchester City for 60 million euros, has been spent. Adeyemi should not replace the top scorer at BVB one-to-one, rather the commitment of the Salzburg native is considered a belated reaction to the departure of the fast-paced and dribble-strong Jadon Sancho (22), who switched to Manchester United last summer.

“Ultimately, we also need a high degree of reliability, a high probability that we will be competitive. Speed is important in modern football, but we also need a certain physicality,” said future sports director Sebastian Kehl recently on “Sky”. Another striker is to be signed as Haaland’s successor, recent candidates include Hugo Ekitike (19; Stade Reims), Adam Hlozek (19; Sparta Prague), Benjamin Sesko (18; RB Salzburg) and Sébastien Haller (27; Ajax Amsterdam ) traded.
