Walks like brother Jude at 17
Real Madrid confirmed the signing of Jude Bellingham (19) on Wednesday afternoon, followed in the afternoon by Jobe Bellingham, two years his junior, to Sunderland AFC. After eleven years, the offensive talent is leaving Birmingham City and moving on within the championship – like brother Jude in 2020 at the age of 17. The details of the fee vary from 1.5 million to 3 million pounds (1.75 to 3.5 million euros).
The youngster made his professional debut in January 2022 and has been part of the squad since last season. Under coach John Eustace, Jobe was mostly in demand as a wild card, but he was allowed to play from the start in the last four games – a total of 23 games in all competitions with 663 minutes to book. Birmingham finished the Championship season in 17th place at the bottom of the table, while Sunderland reached the play-offs in sixth place, where they lost to eventual winners Luton Town in the semi-finals.
With Bellingham, Wanner & Duranville: The most valuable talents up to the age of 17
“I’m delighted to sign for Sunderland AFC and can’t wait to get started. The opportunity for young players to move here and develop is obvious and I believe this is the perfect club for me to continue my development. I am grateful to everyone at Birmingham City for their support over the past 11 years and wish them the best for the future as I begin the next chapter of my career at the Stadium of Light,” said Jobe, who has also been linked with BVB and presented the transfer market last year as part of the talent calendar.
