Giovanni Reyna is the most unlucky person in the squad of Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. The American has been set back by serious injuries several times in recent years. After he had to miss this summer since June with an unspecified leg injury, he was now up for another comeback attempt for BVB on Friday.
Reyna was part of the Black and Yellows’ second representative squad, which met with FC Schalke 04’s U23s for a friendly on Friday afternoon. In camera, the third division team from Dortmund lost 0-1 against Schalke, who were lower in the league. Striker Kelsey Meisel scored the winning goal for the Royal Blues in the 20th minute.
BVB star Reyna played for almost an hour and apparently left a good impression during this time. The most important news for the Dortmund fans: The 20-year-old ran smoothly and seemed to be able to participate without any new complaints. He previously sustained his injury in June in the CONCACAF Nations League game wearing the US jersey against Canada (2-0).
Adeyemi also worked for BVB II
Reyna was not the only player from the runner-up’s licensed squad who was tested on Friday. National player Karim Adeyemi, who was not called up for the international matches against Japan and France after suffering muscle problems and is supposed to work on his form at BVB, also played against fourth division club FC Schalke 04 II.
Since the game was played behind closed doors in Gelsenkirchen, detailed information about the performances of the BVB professionals Reyna and Adeyemi remained under wraps.
While Reyna is still without a minute of action this season, Adeyemi has played in all three Bundesliga games so far, including twice as a substitute. However, the 21-year-old was still a long way from his best form from the second half of the season.
