Nico Schlotterbeck was once again on the pitch for over 90 minutes for his BVB last Sunday and was an important asset for his colors in central defense. In the 3-1 home win against VfL Bochum, however, he was involuntarily the focus of attention before half-time when he scored an own goal to equalize the score at 1-1. But he didn’t dwell on his mistake for too long, as the national player revealed.
“It was really good until the 45th minute, after that it had a bitter aftertaste. But I can deal with it. I told Alex (Meyer, editor’s note) that I was sorry, then it was in At half-time too,” Schlotterbeck told BVB club media when asked about his own goal.
Dortmund’s central defender was relieved that his team finally secured an unchallenged home win in the second half despite his own goal mishap: “It’s football, mistakes are part of sport. But I can deal with them and don’t try to get away with it. “To make up for my mistake. You still have to focus on your own game, that’s what I tried.”
Schlotterbeck with praise for Dreifach-Knipser Füllkrug
Center forward Niclas Füllkrug showed an outstanding performance in this first BVB home game of the new calendar year, contributing all three goals for his team.
“He’s a striker, he’s done it many times before. We’re happy for him, he’s done really well. We’re happy to continue like this,” Füllkrug also received praise from his teammate Nico Schlotterbeck.
For the 24-year-old, it was the 27th competitive game of the current season in the Borussia Dortmund jersey. Schlotterbeck is the outfield player with the most minutes played in the current season. In the Bundesliga he has been in the starting line-up in 18 of the 19 matches so far.
