BVB star Adeyemi describes his “absolute horror”

Karim Adeyemi was doomed to watch Borussia Dortmund’s 2-1 win in the DFB Cup game at VfL Bochum. After a red card in the previous game at Hannover 96 (2-0), he was suspended for two matches in this competition. There are things that the BVB youngster doesn’t like doing at all, watching his own team outside on the substitutes’ bench or even at home in front of the television set.

“I’m a player who doesn’t like to watch when he’s sitting on the bench and can’t do anything in the situation. That’s why it’s absolutely horrifying for me,” said the German international in an interview on the BVB YouTube channel clear.

The 21-year-old was not forced to play this passive role all too often in his first season at Borussia Dortmund, as he has already played 22 competitive games for the Black and Yellows to date.

Adeyemi has only really ignited since the new year. On the last two weekends in the Bundesliga, the winger scored his first two league goals for BVB against Bayer Leverkusen (2-0) and SC Freiburg (5-1), helping his team score important victories.

“It took me a bit of time, maybe because of the injury I had at the beginning. I’m glad that this year started so well,” said Adeyemi before the championship duel at SV Werder Bremen.

Adeyemi has signed with BVB until 2027

Born in Munich, he couldn’t quite explain why it took him so long to get his first Bundesliga goal: “I’ve always felt good, but of course it’s even more fun when I can help the team and sometimes score goals […] Luck is on my side now. I’m still as determined as before and trying to do my thing. Everything is going better now, maybe it’s just the new year.”

The youngster has set himself the goal of continuing his sporting development with the Westphalians in the current season. “I’m not finished yet, I can still develop very well. Dortmund was absolutely the right step. That’s why I hope that I can learn a lot in the coming months and years,” said the left-footed player, who signed a long-term contract last summer had signed a contract with BVB until 2027.
