BVB | “Staggering!” Ex-national player with tough billing

Is BVB already in the middle of a crisis after the two painful defeats against FC Bayern and RB Leipzig? Ex-national player Stefan Effenberg believes: yes! After the recent disappointing performances, he gave the Dortmund team a devastating testimony.

Out of the Champions League, out of the cup, down from first place in the table: the horror weeks in Dortmund found their inglorious climax in the 0-2 defeat in Leipzig during the week. The ease and playfulness that BVB still showed regularly at the beginning of the year was not to be seen either against FC Bayern or in Saxony.

According to ex-national player Stefan Effenberg, the first signs of Dortmund’s downfall could already be seen in Munich. “The best thing about it from Dortmund’s point of view was the result, because Bayern could have gone 7-1 or 8-2,” he wrote in his “t-online” column about the top game.

The fact that only a few days later BVB allowed themselves to be shown in an important game with virtually no resistance, he finds “worrying and shocking”, judged the former professional, who wondered after these “sensitive setbacks”, “whether they still care about it at all will recover once”.

“Effe” was particularly harsh with the top performers in Dortmund. “I didn’t see anything at all from the leading players, not even from Marco Reus,” he said, among other things, with the captain. Emre Can and Gregor Kobel were the only players “who recently performed well,” said the former Bayern professional.

Effenberg is certain that the black and yellow cannot become champions with such performances. “The chances have never been so great, but they are giving away and gambling away everything because they are nowhere near their performance limit,” wrote the 54-year-old.
