BVB sports director Kehl declares against Boniface transfer

If things had gone a little differently, Bayer Leverkusen’s current best striker, Victor Boniface, could have ended up at Borussia Dortmund. Now BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl has explained why a possible transfer of the goal-scoring Nigerian did not materialize.

“What if…”, the big question of life is also on Borussia Dortmund’s mind these days. Because BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl has now explained to “WAZ” that he is not mourning a possible transfer of current Leverkusen shooting star Victor Boniface.

Kehl thus confirmed a corresponding report from “Sport Bild”, according to which the black and yellow had the chance to sign the 22-year-old last winter.

“I’m not annoyed at all because I know that, especially in my job, timing and general conditions are incredibly important elements in order to be able to make a decision at the right moment. We didn’t know at the time that such transfers would be initiated and implemented “that Jude Bellingham would be sold. So there was no budget,” Kehl looked back without frustration.

In addition, it was “not necessarily the plan” at the time to “add another nine to the squad,” added the BVB sports director.

“Regardless of Boniface’s personality, I still find it exciting to see how players we have on the list develop at other clubs,” said Kehl, who was not unaware of the striker’s spectacular games in the Leverkusen jersey.

Boniface has scored eight goals in his nine cross-competition appearances for the Werkself so far, seven of them in the Bundesliga, where he follows surprise leader Serhou Guirassy from VfB Stuttgart (13 goals) and Harry Kane from FC Bayern (8). [zusammen mit Jonas Wind vom VfL Wolfsburg] Placed third in the top scorer ranking.

Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund meet for the first time this season on December 3rd at the BayArena. Then the Werkself around Boniface awaits BVB at 5:30 p.m. for the Sunday evening game on matchday 13.
