Breach of Trust Report
Borussia Dortmund and its chief scout Markus Pilawa go their separate ways. The 44-year-old was released by the black and yellow with immediate effect. Pilawa had informed his employer that he wanted to switch to a direct competitor. He is drawn to Munich to FC Bayern – the record champions confirmed this to the TV station “Sport1”.
Pilawa is scheduled to start his new job on Säbener Straße on September 1st. “We respect this decision and, in view of the upcoming challenges, have decided to release Markus Pilawa from his duties immediately. We thank him for the many years of cooperation and wish him all the best for the future,” said Dortmund’s new sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

Pilawa, who was linked to Hertha BSC earlier this year, has worked for BVB since July 2012, succeeding Sven Mislintat in 2017. As the “WAZ” reports, the termination of the cooperation is anything but harmonious. The relationship of trust between Kehl and the “head of scouting and analysis” was severely disturbed because he asked for release from his contract, which ran until 2023, in the middle of the transfer phase – for the step to FC Bayern. After the breach of trust, ex-professional Kehl felt compelled to send a signal.

BVB wants to rely more on identification in future transfers
Another reason for the separation is that BVB wants to make adjustments to its transfer policy. The identification factor should be given greater focus, and talent and technical skills are not the only things that will be important when signing up in the future. It is said that Pilawa did not go down this new path with full conviction. According to “Sport1”, his relationship with coach Edin Terzic and club boss Hans-Joachim Watzke should have been tense.
With the departure of the chief scout, a change is taking place in Munich and Dortmund: According to reports, scout Laurent Busser Pilawas, who was recently signed by FC Bayern, could take over Pilawa’s tasks in Dortmund.
