BVB sports director sees good chances for the title
Sports director Sebastian Kehl considers Borussia Dortmund’s chances of winning the championship title to be good despite being second in the table behind FC Bayern. “I think Bayern are thinking more. Bayern are now in a situation that is relatively unfamiliar to them,” said Kehl on the Sky90 talk show on Sunday. Munich could now “lose more than they can win,” added Kehl. “That’s why I currently see our situation as a hunter rather positively. I think we’ll win both games and then we’ll see what Bayern do.”

Two games before the end of the season, Dortmund are one point behind league leaders Munich, who also have a clearly better goal difference. However, the defending champion will face RB Leipzig in a difficult home game on the coming matchday. “We are in a very good situation. But in the end we have to hope that Bayern leave something behind,” said Kehl.
The fact that BVB showed strong nerves in the title race makes the sporting director proud. That was “a process” on which we have been working intensively since November. The team is now much more resilient and can “deal with the pressure very well,” said the ex-professional: “Now we can keep the pressure on Bayern Munich higher than we have been for many years.”

In the contract negotiations with Mats Hummels (34), meanwhile, there are signs of a decision in the next two weeks. “We would like to extend with Mats, he knows that too. And Mats also knows that we need a decision on this soon – preferably before the end of the season,” said Kehl. One is in “very good talks”, but Hummels has to decide for himself “how he plans in the next few years, there are a few issues attached”.
BVB sports director Kehl: Bidding for Bellingham will “pick up speed”
Kehl is also preparing for a bet for BVB professional Jude Bellingham. “I believe that the race for him will pick up speed again after the season,” said the 43-year-old. “If he should go, then it will probably bring us so much money in line with the market that we can finally say: Okay, it’s a scenario for which we’ve always found solutions in the past. That’s why we’re very relaxed at the moment.”

Bellingham, who is very popular with top clubs from his native England and in Spain and has recently been associated primarily with Real Madrid, does not have an exit clause and is still under contract with BVB for two years, Kehl made clear. According to the BVB sports director, the midfielder should not be placed under time pressure during the decision-making process: “We have not set a deadline.”

Should the England international leave BVB, “it would hurt us a lot,” Kehl admitted. The playful class and the leadership skills of the 19-year-old cannot be replaced for Dortmund, said the ex-professional, “not even with a lot of money”. However, BVB is “not entirely without a chance”. Kehl admitted that the fact that he currently has to go two ways on the transfer market because of the unclear Bellingham personnel is “not very easy, because we also have to be quick”.
