BVB: Raphaël Guerreiro and FC Bayern agree on transfer

Signature next week

Raphaël Guerreiro is likely to move to Bayern after his contract with Borussia Dortmund ends. According to corresponding media reports from “Bild”, “Sport1” and the reporter Fabrizio Romano, the 29-year-old has agreed on a transfer with the German record champions. Guerreiro is scheduled to complete the medical check next week and then sign a contract until 2026. Guerreiro would be the second player the Munich team signed for a free transfer, since the change from Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer only seems to be a matter of form.

It has been clear since the end of May that Guerreiro will leave BVB after seven years. Shortly thereafter, “Sky” reported that FC Bayern had had positive talks with the Portuguese management a few weeks earlier. At that time, Hasan Salihamidzic was still in charge of sport and even after the separation from the 46-year-old, Guerreiro was still considered a Munich transfer target.

The versatile professional, who can be used both on the left side of defense and in central midfield, would meet coach Thomas Tuchel at the champions, whom he already knows from days together in Dortmund. Guerreiro played his first Bundesliga season under Tuchel in 2016/17. The coach is responsible for squad planning this summer together with Uli Hoeneß, Chairman of the Supervisory Board Herbert Hainer, Oliver Kahn’s successor Jan-Christian Dreesen and ex-boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Guerreiro and Laimer would be FC Bayern’s first transfers for the coming season. While Guerreiro seems to have been an issue for a few weeks, Laimer’s signing has been considered certain for months. According to “Sky”, the official announcement can be expected on Friday. It is not unthinkable that the two additions will compete for a starting place in midfield in the future. Although Guerreiro is a trained left-back, under coach Edin Terzic he was used more often as an eighth in the final sprint of the season and collected seven of his 16 scorers in the past Bundesliga season in this position.
