BVB professional Marco Reus has an eye on the European Championship: “Good contact” with Nagelsmann

“Good contact” with Nagelsmann

Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus, who last played for the German national team in November 2021, has not yet decided to take part in the European Championship in his own country. The 34-year-old offensive player explained this in the podcast “Fifteen minutes of football“ by sports journalist Cornelius Küpper and ex-professional Kevin Großkreutz. The tournament in his own country is “definitely still an issue” for Reus.

The Dortmund native was repeatedly set back by injuries in his professional career, which is why he missed, among other things, winning the title at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. With the Black and Yellows, where his contract runs until the summer, Reus has excelled so far this season with three goals and two assists in eight games.

“If the performance continues, you should never say never. I leave everything open to myself. Why should I say no when my body says ‘yes’?” says the veteran (quoted via “Ruhr News“). The connection to the new national coach Julian Nagelsmann is obviously right. “I have good contact with Julian.” The 36-year-old is a “very, very good coach”, which has also been seen in his previous positions at Hoffenheim, Leipzig and Bayern.

Reus made his DFB debut at the age of 22 on October 7, 2011. The right-footed player scored 15 goals in 48 international matches and was in the starting line-up 34 times. Reus reached the highest market value of his career in the summer of 2014 with 50 million euros – it is now at 7 million euros, mainly due to his age.
